Critical Times

We are currently kicking around ideas for the second issue of The Antidote. So far we’re thinking about using the theme of the media to address lots of different issues. How Muslim people are portrayed in the media. How aboriginal people are(n’t) portrayed in the media. How images of women in the media effect body image and the way that men relate to them. Obviously, How War is portrayed is a big one. How cops are portrayed and how criminals are portrayed. All ideas we are mulling over. Any and all suggestions welcome. We may do a completely different theme so tell us ideas even if they aren’t related to the media.

More generally we want to add more sections to the zine. We intended to have a community events section but we scrapped it because of lack of activity. 30 secs after it was too late we got a flood of people wanting to advertise events. So we want to put a community events section in and encourage people to send us things you want promoted. Even band stuff without a specific political edge is fine, it really just has to be community event. If it’s to corporate or we have some issue with it we’ll let you know.
Another section that we want to put in the next Antidote is the “web page.” This highly corny title (that I just thought up then) is a page which will not contain entire articles but instead a few 100 word synopsis’s of articles that are available in full on mediastrike.org. That way we can address more topics in the limited space that we have. We are also up for promoting other peoples work so if you find a cool article that you think more people should see send us the link and we’ll put it in The Antidote.
