Institutional shareholders have given Macquarie Bank a rap over the knuckles over the huge pay packets of senior executives.

ANDREW ROBERTSON: Stratospheric salaries in excess of $30 million a year are starting to wear thin with many investors, prompting an international corporate advisory firm to lobby institutions to vote against Macquarie Bank’s remuneration report.
It was the dominant issue at the annual general meeting, with activists such as the Australian Shareholders Association leading the debate.

The parliamentary elections in Timor-Leste on June 30 2007 will determine whether or not the country continues on an independent progressive development path or falls into line behind the dominant conservative powers in the region, especially Australia, the US and Indonesia. If the latter is the outcome, the Australian left will be left to ponder why so many of our country=s so-called progressive commentators got things so wrong.
